Samir Parekh
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, NY·Medicine & Clinical Research
Moving lab discoveries about cancer into treatments that patients can receive requires clinical trials, drug development expertise, and teamwork across specialties. This grant supports the Cancer Clinical Investigation program, which focuses on treatment science.
- Fields
Medicine & Clinical Research
Pharmacology
- Topics
cancer clinical trials
translational oncology
hematological malignancies
- Grants
- 1 known grant, through Jul 2030
What they work on
- Translate findings from cancer immunology and cancer mechanism laboratories into investigator-initiated clinical trials through Clinical Trial Incubators, Drug Discovery Clinics and Tumor Working Groups.
- Run early-phase and first-in-human cancer therapy trials through the Early Phase Therapeutics Unit, supported by drug development consultation and startup funds.
- Advance treatment science for hematological malignancies, including BET inhibitors for myeloproliferative neoplasms and monitoring of side effects of BCMA CAR-T therapy in multiple myeloma.
More about the research
Samir Parekh, a physician specializing in hematological malignancies (blood cancers), co-leads it with Jian Jin (drug discovery and medicinal chemistry) and Matthew Galsky (solid tumors and clinical-translational research).
Why it matters
Patients with blood cancers such as multiple myeloma and myeloproliferative neoplasms, and with solid tumors such as bladder and lung cancer, could benefit from faster movement of laboratory findings into clinical trials. The program's past work has supported a bladder cancer drug approval and identified a CAR-T side effect. Its outreach projects aim to improve patients' access to care.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
