What they work on
- Identify the health determinants and barriers to urinary incontinence care among Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic women in Washington DC by engaging multiple stakeholders, and adapt the ABC for Bladder Health behavioral therapy to fit their needs.
- Evaluate implementation strategies for the ABC for Bladder Health intervention among Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic women, guided by RE-AIM 3.0, a framework for judging how interventions work in practice, and compare implementation outcomes.
- Compare patient-centered outcomes before and after implementation, including UI symptoms, cure, knowledge, care-seeking, treatment satisfaction and adherence.
More about the research
Safe and effective treatments exist, yet few Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic women with UI receive them. Barriers include fear, cost, inconvenience and poor relationships between patients and providers. This creates a gap between proven treatments and actual care.
Why it matters
Many Black and Hispanic women with urinary incontinence never receive effective care. By identifying the barriers they face and adapting a behavioral bladder therapy to their needs, this work could help reduce disparities in incontinence care. It may also improve symptoms, treatment satisfaction and adherence among minority women in Washington DC.
