Environmental exposures such as pollutants can affect health, but tracing those effects calls for measuring many kinds of molecules at once and combining the results. "Omics" technologies do this by measuring all the genes, proteins or small molecules in a sample together.

- Grants
- 1 known grant, through May 2029
What they work on
- Provide high-quality genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and metagenomics services, which measure DNA, gene activity, proteins, small molecules and microbes. The goal is to accelerate precision environmental health research.
- Integrate data across omic platforms through bioinformatic analysis, with Resource Navigators guiding project design, data generation and interpretation.
- Support new investigators' careers and help senior investigators adopt new technologies through individualized training, workshops, seminars and the center's leadership development program.
- Increase research impact by connecting center components and institutions, and by supporting exploratory pilot projects and collaborations with other environmental health centers.
More about the research
They generate huge datasets that most researchers need expert help to design, run and interpret. This core facility gives scientists at the Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health access to these tools and to the expertise to use them well.
Why it matters
Easier access to multi-omic measurements and expert data analysis could help environmental health researchers find how exposures alter genes, proteins, metabolites and microbiomes. Such findings may eventually inform more precise ways to prevent or address health effects of environmental exposures in Gulf Coast communities and beyond.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
