Texas State University, TX·Computer Science
Artificial intelligence is reshaping many fields, but training and computing resources are often concentrated in computer science departments. This project asks how a university can spread AI skills and research into fields that do not traditionally use AI.
- Fields
Computer Science
Education Research
- Topics
artificial intelligence
AI education
machine learning
- Grants
- 1 known grant, through Dec 2026
What they work on
- Develop an Applied AI Summer School and new course modules in data analytics, Python, deep learning, natural language processing and computer vision for students in non-AI disciplines, using inclusive and contextualized teaching methods.
- Provide high-performance computing training that speeds up data preprocessing and neural network training for researchers across departments.
- Support foundational and use-inspired AI research in fields such as criminal justice, psychology, firefighting and agriculture, in collaboration with the Center for Analytics and Data Science.
More about the research
Examples include criminal justice, psychology, firefighting and agriculture. The project also aims to widen who enters the AI workforce.
Why it matters
Students and researchers in fields such as criminal justice, psychology, firefighting and agriculture could gain practical AI and high-performance computing skills. This could help them apply AI to problems in their own disciplines. The training aims to prepare underrepresented students for AI careers at Texas State and in the surrounding community.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
