Telehealth, getting medical care by phone or video instead of at a clinic, is growing fast in reproductive healthcare. It might cut travel and costs, ease language translation, feel more private and need less time off work or school.

What they work on
- Compare telehealth and in-person reproductive healthcare for timing, costs, follow-up care and unplanned in-person visits, in two cohorts of 1,000 patients each recruited at clinics and through Google Ads.
- Test whether patients using telehealth live in areas with less healthcare availability than in-person patients, using geospatial analysis of patients' census block groups or tracts.
- Identify which telehealth features patients prefer, focusing on historically marginalized populations, using discrete choice experiments and maximum difference analysis, two survey methods borrowed from market research.
More about the research
It could also leave behind patients without devices, digital skills or reliable internet. This research asks whether telehealth delivers reproductive care that is more timely and affordable, whether it reaches women in areas with few healthcare options, and what features patients actually want.
Why it matters
Access to reproductive healthcare varies widely across the U.S. Evidence on whether telehealth lowers costs, speeds care and reaches people in areas with few providers could help clinics design remote services that serve patients better, especially historically marginalized groups. The findings on what patients value in telehealth could also guide telehealth design in other areas of healthcare.
