Many people never take part in clinical research, and many of them have poorer health outcomes. Moving lab discoveries into better care is often slow and inefficient.

- Grants
- 1 known grant, through Dec 2031
What they work on
- Grow existing community partnerships and build new ones across the Buffalo Translational Consortium, engaging community members in all phases of research to improve health in the region.
- Develop and test new translational science methods that make clinical research more efficient and effective, and share successful methods with other Clinical and Translational Science Award hubs.
- Train a multidisciplinary workforce in translational, team, data and implementation science, including a new curriculum that prepares community health workers to serve on research teams.
- Create and share informatics tools and methods, meaning software and data approaches, that support clinical and translational research and improve population health.
More about the research
Translational science studies how to speed up that process. This grant funds the University at Buffalo Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). The institute leads the Buffalo Translational Consortium, which links the region's academic, clinical and research institutions with community partners. Buffalo is one of the poorest cities in the US, with 31% of residents living in poverty. The institute's overall focus is improving public health in the region and nationally.
Why it matters
Buffalo has high poverty and residents who often miss out on clinical research. The institute's work could help these communities gain access to clinical studies and benefit from research findings. More efficient ways of running and translating research, along with shared data tools, could speed the path from discovery to better population health. These gains could reach both western New York and other research hubs nationwide.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
