What they work on
- Develop seven AI4SecureCI learning modules that teach fair and explainable AI for securing cloud cyberinfrastructure, covering topics from malware detection to adversarial attacks, and integrate them into undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Build hands-on lab exercises using the team's cloud security datasets, public security datasets and free-tier cloud services such as AWS Educate.
- Broaden adoption through student boot camps and faculty workshops reaching underrepresented groups, and share materials through the NSF ACCESS Knowledge Base.
More about the research
Security tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) can help defend these systems, but only if they are fair, explainable and kept up to date. Doing that requires a trained workforce. This collaborative project aims to train researchers and students to build and adapt AI-based cloud security tools that are fair and unbiased.
Why it matters
Organizations that depend on cloud computing face fast-evolving cyber threats. By training students and faculty to build fair, explainable AI security tools, the project could strengthen the people who defend cloud systems. Its freely available modules and datasets could help other schools add hands-on AI security training.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
