University of Oklahoma-Health Sciences Center, OK·Medicine & Clinical Research

Cancer research depends on carefully analyzing cells and tissues, from tumor samples to cultured cell lines, and on making sure those samples are what researchers think they are. This grant supports the Cell and Tissue Analysis (CTA) Core, a shared facility that provides these services, expertise and instruments to cancer investigators in a research center program (COBRE) and to other cancer researchers in Oklahoma.

Grants
1 known grant, through Jun 2029

What they work on

  1. Provide tissue microarray construction, histochemical staining and immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded and frozen tissues to support cancer biology and diagnostics research.
  2. Offer RNAscope, BaseScope and miRNAscope in situ hybridization to detect specific RNA molecules directly within cancer tissue samples.
  3. Support cell-based studies through circulating tumor cell isolation, Seahorse metabolic flux analysis and hypoxic chamber experiments for cancer investigators.
  4. Ensure research integrity by authenticating cell lines with Short Tandem Repeat (STR) profiling and testing cultures for mycoplasma contamination.

More about the research

Established in 2012, it is described as the only facility of its kind in the state.

Why it matters

Reliable tissue staining, RNA detection, metabolic assays and cell-line authentication help cancer researchers in Oklahoma produce trustworthy results about cancer biology, treatment and diagnosis. Shared access to these tools supports studies that could inform new cancer therapies and diagnostics.
