Health research is only as trustworthy as its methods: how a study is designed, what data it collects and how those data are analyzed. As study designs, data sources and statistical tools multiply, researchers struggle to choose the right ones.

Grants
2 known grants, through Jun 2028

What they work on

  1. Promote rigorous study designs in HIV prevention research at CAPS through training, consultation and pre-submission review of grant proposals and manuscripts.
  2. Encourage HIV researchers to use emerging technologies, multiple data sources, advanced statistics and mixed methods, and share best practices for de-identifying data to protect participants.
  3. Train early-career aging researchers in established health disparities methods, publicly available datasets and NIH policies through group-based sessions.
  4. Create customized, team-based methods training plans for each scientist's pilot study of aging-related health disparities, and disseminate methodological resources through publications and a website.

More about the research

The PI leads two methods cores that help scientists studying HIV prevention and health disparities in older adults use rigorous designs and analyses. These are service and training cores, not single experiments.

Why it matters

By raising the rigor of HIV studies, this work aims to support research that could help end the HIV epidemic. Its training and resources on aging could also improve understanding of why health disparities arise among older adults from diverse communities. That knowledge could, in turn, support interventions designed to achieve health equity.
